There are two categories of membership for local governments and authorities:

• Agency Members are public agencies that have an NPDES permitted treatment capacity of at least 5 MGD in the aggregate. Agency Members act through a designated representative who is a full-time employee of the Agency Member.
• Associate Agency Members are public agencies that have an NPDES permitted treatment capacity of less than 5 MGD in the aggregate.

There are also two categories of membership for consulting firms:

• Consultant Members are corporations, partnership, or other business entities that have at least one office in Virginia or are under contract to perform work for an Agency Member. This membership category is limited to 8 firms.
• Associate Consultant Members are corporations, partnership, or other business entities that have at least one office in Virginia or are under contract to perform work for an Agency Member.

For Agency Members and Associate Agency Members, dues are based on annual average daily flow to share VAMWA operating expenses equitably.

For Consultant Members and Associate Consultant Members, a fixed dues schedule applies for each category.
